sSpontaneous Remission or Miracle Healing

Today contrary to “miracle healing” spontaneous remission is approved by modern medicine and many cases of spontaneous healing have been reported.

In the Heidelberg tumor center 16 cases were recorded and documented in recent years. We can only guess what may be the cause of “spontaneous remission”. Doctors and scientists simply cannot explain this phenomenon. The reason might be a sudden restoration of the body’s own immune defense system. Other influences such as a change of diet or the result of complementary therapeutic treatments could be a reason, but this does not really seem convincing. It has also been examined if there is a possible connection with the personal attitude towards faith or with meditation techniques and exercises. But all this doesn’t seem to matter. So is it real miracle healing?

At the moment scientists, who occupy themselves with spontaneous remissions report usually about thirty minor cases per year. About 4 cases per year concern severe cases of cancer.

Although explanations for these cases of spontaneous remission are insufficient they are approved by modern medicine.

This is different with the so-called miracle healings. There are also “spontaneous remissions”, healings, or miracle healings that are documented and approved by the Catholic Church. They are called “miracle healings”, because they seem to be contrary to all laws of nature and therefore they cannot be rationally explained.

Most of the miracle healings are connected to places of pilgrimage, such as Fátima or Lourdes; and they have a lot to do with spirituality of people and Marian devotion. Altogether “stuff” that is not helpful for doctors and sober scientists looking for a “natural” explanation. However, there are also miracle healings that are not connected with these places of pilgrimage. There was for example a man in Italy who went to a church and took a vow, in case he would completely recover. When he returned home his illness had disappeared. Later he gave an interview on this occurrence.

There is also the story of three young women from Ex-Yugoslavia who had a Marian apparition. This happened in a place that later became a place of pilgrimage because of this event. Certainly, not every spectacular case becomes public. A possible reason might be that these cases are not realized in the patients’ social environment. It might also be due to the fact that the patients themselves to not want it. This silence or this tranquility has also to do with spirituality and confidence. Under this point of view you do not have to go on a pilgrimage to a holy place to get cured. If this is true, then the power lies in ourselves and just at this point we are back at the subject of medically approved spontaneous remission. Even the scientists assume that the causes lie in the body or in the soul of the sick patient.

But … they do not have an explanation for this.

I believe that people who have been healed know whom to thank. For these people spontaneous remission is always also a miracle healing. Not in the spectacular sense of the word, but when they listen into themselves and find rest.
